| SCRIPT PREVIEW | | Synopsis | Eyewitnesses, a collection of monologues, presents the passion of Christ from twelve different perspectives. These monologues, which may be used as individual pieces or as part of an entire production, begin with Jesus the night of his betrayal and end years later with John, an exile waiting for a final revelation. Each monologue reveals the impact Jesus had on that character’s life: Judas, who expected Jesus to deliver Israel from Roman rule; Pilate’s wife, whose vivid nightmare compelled her to beg her husband for Jesus’ life; Nicodemus, the Pharisee, who was so afraid of what others might say that he didn’t dare visit Jesus in the daytime; Lazarus, who knew more than anyone else about the meaning of resurrection and who claimed Jesus as a dear friend; Mary, Lazarus’s sister, who also understood the real truth of Jesus’ kingdom; Mary Magdalene, who was cleansed of an evil spirit; Stephen, whose chance meeting with Jesus changed his life forever; the prostitute who learned what mercy was and showed her gratitude and devotion by wiping Jesus’ feet with her hair; and of course those closest to Jesus, including Peter, John, and Mary, his mother. Let their voices echo through the years to remind listeners today of the passion of Christ. |
