SCRIPT PREVIEW
Synopsis
The sweet peppermint treat we all love in December is more than just a stocking stuffer and Christmas tree ornament. The candy cane is rich in Christian symbolism. This program dramatizes its creation in mid-1800s Germany. The search was on for a treat that would keep children quiet during worship services, yet remind them of Christmas. The result was the candy cane. Children read Scripture to explain its symbolism: its crook shape reminds us of Jesus, the good shepherd; its upside-down J shape is the first letter of Jesus' name; the taste is reminiscent of God's sweetest gift in Jesus; the white color stands for purity and the red stripes depict that "by his stripes we are healed." Includes two traditional songs with all-new lyrics. The children hand out miniature candy canes as the congregation files out.
