Synopsis
We all have crosses to bear—but none as obvious as Sam's. It's huge, it's cumbersome and it's inconvenient. Humor ensues as Jesus asks him to carry it throughout his day and he reluctantly agrees. First stop: work. His boss observes, "Ever since you got that cross, you haven't been making the kind of deals that put the company ahead." He loses a promotion. Then he takes it on a date, where his embarrassed girlfriend asks, "Can't you just hide it for one minute?" She breaks up with him. Dejected, he seeks out his "friends" for solace, but they leave for a wild party without him, saying, "You'd be a lot more fun without that cross." Friendless, penniless and dejected, Sam tries to give the cross back. Jesus gently reminds him that he will never leave or forsake him, then helps him carry his burden. Originally written for a special youth Lenten service.
