The characters give first-person accounts of how they are affected by the birth of Jesus, with historical information about biblical customs and practices added for authenticity. Included are monologues by Isaiah, Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Shepherds, Innkeeper, Magi, Simeon and Anna. The monologists may rehearse their two- to three- minute selections individually—only one group practice is required to establish the flow of the service.
