| | SCRIPT PREVIEW | | | Synopsis | | The Angel of the Lord’s announcement, “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people…” is familiar to us all. Now imagine a prequel to the Angel’s appearance to the shepherds. First the Angel visits rabbis Harem and Scarem, who quibble with “for all the people,” insisting, “Surely you mean all obedient Jewish people.” Next, the Angel tries religious teachers Shamma and Jamma, who can’t believe that the Messiah would lie in a manger. Ewww! After getting shut down twice, the Angel realizes she must find those who will truly listen out of their deep need, so she visits some ragtag shepherds. Third time’s the charm! This gentle satire skewers social standing, assumptions, and meeting Jesus where he is, not where we expect him to be. | | | Related Titles: | | A christmas play with an all-female cast An Advent comedy on holiday stress An Adventure in Missing the Point A no fuss alternative - no rehearsal required |
